Parents send their children to school in hopes that they’ll receive an education that would bring them success in the future as grown ups.
Well, for one mother in Penang, her 8-year-old daughter has definitely learned a skill that might actually help her make it big in a certain risky scene, casinos.
Taking to the UTAR Confessions – ALL Rejected / Censor Original Posts Facebook page, the mother explained how her daughter had shown up for their shopping run with RM1,550, which are her winnings from gambling at school, after she had only given the girl RM50 as pocket money for a week.
She wrote, “I noticed my daughter, who is in Standard 2, has a lot of money to spend lately. I don’t know if I’m happy or worried after knowing the source (of the money).”
The mother explained that she gives her daughter RM50 a week for school cafeteria food and stationaries, stating that it was enough.
Then, during a shopping trip with her daughter to a high-end shopping mall in Penang, her daughter decided to try and purchase a luxury schoolbag which costs RM899, as her classmates had the same bag.
“To be honest, I was really scared at that moment (the store clerk saw it too). I then told my daughter that we would go to other stories to check out schoolbags and then I would take her to MR.DIY so that she can buy the stationaries that she likes,” she added.
Though, before the mother can finish speaking, the daughter piped up by telling the mother she had the money to purchase the luxury schoolbag herself before showcasing a large pile of banknotes, totaling in RM1,550, in her current schoolbag.
“I only gave her RM50 to buy food for a week, how could she still have more than RM1,000?”
After heading home and double checking with her husband that he didn’t give the girl the money, the mother sat the 8-year-old girl down for a talk to get to the bottom of it.
“My daughter was actually very excited and told me the whole story about making money in school. After listening, I was surprised and angry. I didn’t know whether I should be happy or worried.”
“During recess at school, my daughter has started gambling as a banker on both big and small bets.”
It turns out that the little girl goes to an international school where the students come from high-income families and receive RM100 as pocket money a day.
After telling her husband about their daughter’s gambling habits, he merely laughed and let it go. She now wonders what she should do and has asked for the general public’s advice.
What would you do if you were in the mother’s shoes? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
