We all have that one friend who needs us to “spot” them for money because they always seem to be in a tight financial situation. And while we try and help these friends out as much as we can, there’s always a limit where we should draw a line, especially if they don’t intend to pay us back!
If you have friends whose tabs are costing you a little more than it should and you’ve tried every possible way of getting them to pay you back unsuccessfully, you might want to try this method.
A netizen recently shared an unconventional but useful way to get your money back from these special friends in a post that went viral in the Facebook group, Penang Kini.
“Thank God… just finished a court session at civil court. Made a debt claim from friends who haven’t paid me back for more than a year. Finally had to use the power of the law to force him to pay within 30 days from today.”
For those of you who think taking legal action is too complicated of a step, don’t worry. According to the netizen, you don’t even need a lawyer to apply for this claim!
He shared, “I just went to the civil court to open a small claim file, paid RM20 and told my claim and the amount of money I lent my friend.” However, the netizen did specify that this small claim only works for borrowings below RM5,000.
“The Court will give you a call letter for the judge’s front. If the accused admits that they’ve borrowed money without paying back, the court will issue an immediate ruling for the defendant to pay back within 30 days.”
“If they still don’t pay back within this period, the punishment will be heavier and the defendant must either pay on the spot or their property will be seized. They can also get arrested.”
Maybe this will be the wake-up call those friends need to finally start paying off their tabs! Would you guys try out this solution?
