Have you ever experienced the frustration of trying to withdraw money from an ATM only to be told that the machine is out of service? While most of us usually just head to the next nearest working ATM, this netizen’s story has made us a little more cautious about checking twice before leaving these machines!
A netizen from a Facebook group known as FTopNews, recently shared the scary experience of almost losing RM1,500 when she tried to withdraw cash out of an “out of service” ATM.
“Don’t rush to leave [after failing to withdraw money from the ‘out of service’ ATM]. I saw the money come out right after the woman left. I didn’t expect RM1,500 to come out of the ‘out of service’ ATM so I shouted in the direction of the airport gate to get her attention. Luckily, she turned around and came back to retrieve her money.”
The netizen then advised all Facebook users to be alert of their surroundings:
“It’s not the first time this has happened! If you encounter something like this, stay for 3 minutes first. If there’s a working ATM machine beside you, use that to check if your account balance was deducted from the failed transaction. If this is the case, call customer service and make sure to keep your eyes on the ‘out of service’ ATM machine the entire time just in case it suddenly dispenses your cash.”
So the next time you find yourself stuck with an ATM that says ‘service unavailable’, be sure to follow these steps to avoid possibly losing your money!
