A Facebook page recently shared a heartwarming story about a woman (let’s call her Millie) who met a female vendor working near her office.
The post mentioned that the vendor had set up stalls selling a variety of foods from different ethnic groups, turning the area into a mini night market.
The blue drink with jelly pieces costs RM3
During Millie’s lunch break, she went to the “street of vendors” where she usually grabs some braised pork rice, but unfortunately, the stall was closed.
So, she decided to check out a Malay stall instead, which sells nasi lemak, traditional Malay cakes, fried snacks, and colourful drinks.
While she was picking out some Malay cakes she liked, a customer showed up and ordered a blue drink with jelly bits which cost RM3.
Another 2 customers came to buy the same drink
After the first customer left, 2 more people came to the stall to buy drinks, and Millie realised that they were garbage collectors.
They ordered the same blue drink with the same jelly bits, and the vendor told them it was RM1. Millie was a bit confused, wondering why the price was different from what the 1st customer paid.
The 2 workers looked confused at first, then double-checked the price with the vendor. Once they confirmed it was RM1, they happily bought 2 more cups and left.
“Life is tough for everyone”
After the 2 customers left, Millie pointed to the blue drink and asked the vendor how much it actually costs. The vendor replied that it was RM3.
Curious, Millie asked why she charged the 2 customers only RM1 for the drink instead of the usual RM3. The vendor explained,
“The normal price is RM3 per cup, but their work is really tough, and it’s so hot, so I gave them a discount.”
Millie was touched by the situation and mentioned how heartwarming it is to see the vendor looking out for them while also preserving their dignity.
“Life is tough for everyone, so it’s heartwarming when we help and care for each other within our means. Wishing this kind-hearted kakak a lifetime of peace!”
