The reckless and dangerous action of a road user on the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak has gone viral on social media recently, garnering the attention of Malaysians and more importantly, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
This is after the road user, a Malaysian man, recorded himself driving his pickup truck over the speed limit on the road and posted it on social media for all to see.
Driving over 200km/h speed on the Pan Borneo Highway and recording it
In the video, recorded from inside the pickup truck, the man can be seen driving way above the speed limit, reaching over 200km/h to the point that the vehicle’s analogue speedometer couldn’t give an accurate reading of the speed.
Furthermore, the man also dangerously switched lanes at high speed to overtake the other vehicles on the road.
To top it all off, he was also using one of his hands to record the whole sequence on his smartphone.

Following the video going viral, it has caught the attention of PDRM who has since traced the pickup truck driver and taken action against him.
These include issuing multiple summonses for various offences and seizing his pickup truck.
In a statement by the Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata, PDRM was made aware of the viral video after receiving a report on the matter at 11am on 1 April.
Investigations found that the video was uploaded on social media on 4 March 2024 by the driver himself. The road seen in the video was also identified as the Pan Borneo Highway from Saratok to Betong in Sarawak.
On 2 April, the Sarawak Police was able to trace the vehicle and the driver was ordered to surrender himself at the Simpang Tiga police station in Kuching, which he did the next day at 10.30am.
Slapped with multiple summonses and got his pickup truck seized by PDRM
The driver then admitted to his actions and was issued with a summons for speeding under Section 079(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Besides that, he was also slapped with other summonses for various offences, including a missing 3rd brake light, illegal modification, a fancy licence plate and a modified exhaust.
Furthermore, his pickup truck was also seized by the police under Section 60(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Accordingly, the vehicle was handed over to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for further action.
Well, let this be a lesson to all road users in Malaysia to always adhere to the traffic rules and regulations and to not drive recklessly on the road.
