As per every company’s rules, it’s mandatory to have an MC if you’re calling in sick. If you’re bringing in a forged MC, you’re likely to face disciplinary actions or worse – a warning letter which may tarnish your reputation at your workplace.
In a post shared by the Facebook page Ricebowl铁饭网-解决您的求职难题 recently, a Malaysian employer took the opportunity to remind all youth out there about bringing in forged MCs. This happened after 1 of his employees, who is still on her probation brought in a forged MC, which was obvious because the dates have been altered – she was supposed to be on 1 day sick leave but her mother added an extra day without the doctor’s consultation.
When he texted the worker, he got a respond but from her mother instead.
Her mother did not think it was an issue, and said that it was the mistake on the doctor’s end.
“I told the doctor that my daughter needed 2 days of sick leave. I think he didn’t hear me and I didn’t have time to go back to the clinic, so I changed the dates myself.”
She continued by asking her daughter’s employer, “do you have any other problems?”
We can only imagine your fate at the workplace to have your family members speaking to your boss in such a manner. Regardless, the employer kept calm and told the woman that an MC cannot be forged, and it is always up to the doctor to set the number of days for sick leave.
“I told my daughter to go back to work when she has fully recovered, and I didn’t want her to infect others. The doctor also said he wasn’t sure if 1 day was enough,” the woman explained.
Again, she asked her daughter’s employer, “any more issues?”
After a short discussion, both parties agreed to terminate their working relationship, and the employer asked the probationary staff to bring back the uniform before she receives her pay. He also reminded the woman that it’s unacceptable to forge an MC, to which she replied,
“There’s nothing I can do if you find it unacceptable.”
We sincerely hope that the staff can learn from the experience for the sake of her future. To all the employers out there, have you ever received a forged MC from your workers?
