One of the most heavily debated phrases in our superficial world would definitely be “can money buy happiness”? Some may argue that happiness comes from within, and some find joy in materialistic items.
Just recently, a Malaysian man has shared his experience anonymously to a Twitter confession page. In his post he said,
“I don’t agree when people say money can’t buy happiness. I was so poor that back when I was studying, my classmates would purposely leave me out of after school hang outs.”
“They didn’t want to invite me because they knew I couldn’t afford it. They were scared that they’d have to treat me if I do go out with them.”
He continued in his post saying that it’s sad to see that you’re alienated because you don’t have money.
“It’s sad because when I go to school, I could only bring a bottle of water and buy a RM0.50 sambal bread during recess. Most of the times, I don’t even eat. I just sit in the library alone”, he added.
Thankfully, he managed to make a living for himself and is now earning about RM10-15k per month.
“Thank God, I’m able to succeed in life and now I’m able to help those in need as well. When you surrender to Him, you will feel at peace. It’s definitely a joy to see the smile on other people’s face when they have some food on the table,” he added.
He then ended the post by saying,
“To me, money really does buy happiness. Money can never make you happy if you’re using it to please the world. But it will make you happy if you follow His way. That’s all I want to share.”
Many netizens agreed with what he said and here’s what some of them said:
“Agree. The more income we have the more we should help those who are in need.”
“I really do agree that money buys happiness. I’m thankful that I was able to have a child through IVF. Those who did not go through this path wouldn’t understand how valuable 1 cent is to fill the IVF fund we were saving up for.”
“Money can buy happiness when we know how to be grateful and not greedy.”
“I was in this situation and thank God everything is good now. It’s definitely a joy when I go home and I’m able to provide food for my parents. It makes me happy seeing them happy.”
