It has been raining for a few days now, and it’s certainly a relief to have a “break” from the sunny days. Unfortunately, that’s not the case for some people and in case you’re unaware, several states have been hit by flash floods, with Johor being the worst at the time being.
At the time of writing (March 2), the number of flood victims in Johor has gone up to 25,213 and 10 districts in the state are affected. The Malaysian Insight also reported 1 casualty in which a man drowned in his car. Amidst the chaos, an influencer, Han Xiao Aii decided to step out of her comfort zone and help the flood victims in any way she can.
In multiple Facebook posts yesterday (March 1), Xiao Aii said that she has arranged for rescue boats to enter the affected areas and help the victims.
“I’m on standby all the time,” Xiao Aii reminded the people.
In another post, she also stated that her team of volunteers has started the work in the affected areas, and food supplies, as well as basic needs, have also been sent to the victims. She left an address in her post and urged those who can donate some supplies, such as:
- Water
- Milk
- Biscuits and other dry food
- Towel
- Panadol
Based on the images that she shared, her team has received a lot of contributions from the public, which she has delivered to the victims last night via a truck.
In the meantime, the boats that she had arranged for rescue work were also in Yong Peng, but unfortunately, not all areas were accessible.
“We couldn’t enter some areas as the current was too strong, and it was too dark.”
As of 4:19 am, Xiao Aii said that the victims in the Seri Bali district are in dire need of food supplies and some warm clothes. As of now, the door to the supply house is still open to the public who wish to drop their contributions.
Many netizens took the opportunity to thank the influencer for her rescue work and efforts.
“Thank God you’re here.”
“Thank you. Really appreciate it.”
“So grateful for your effort and contributions.”
In the meantime, other netizens also reminded the influencer to prioritise her safety during the rescue work.
“Good luck. Prioritise your safety.”
“Please be careful, and thank you for doing this.”
This is not Xiao Aii’s first rodeo as she has been involved in multiple rescue work in the state previously during the flood season. Regardless, we’re glad that there are kind souls who are out there to help the flood victims. To the folks in Johor and other affected states, do be careful and stay strong!
