As if the floods in Kelantan weren’t bad enough, the lack of access to clean water in some parts of the state has made it even tougher for the flood victims.

Clean water is an essential part of our daily lives, but unfortunately, some flood victims in Kampung Tasek Bakong, Rantau Panjang, Kelantan had no other choice but to boil flood water for their consumption.

They saw no other options as food is running scarce, and they were unable to leave the house as the water level has risen.

Harian Metro reported that a number of 62 victims in Rantau Panjang had to source the flood water as they lost access to clean water 3 days ago. As all the roads in and out are still inaccessible, and with the children going thirsty, they had to prepare milk for their children using boiled flood water.

One of the victims said she was aware that boiling flood water is not the brightest idea, but the current circumstances has left them no choice. The children are not the only ones affected by thirst and hunger, but also the adults.

“We hope that someone will come in to send clean water for us here. We know that it’s not easy to access into this area, so we’re looking for other ways first by just trusting that the water we drink will not be harmful.”

The water for consumption is not the sole problem the victims have to worry about. Another victim said that the space is also limited as all the victims have gathered in the house of one resident who is not severely affected. The yard, however, is flooded with 0.5 meters of water.

He also said that the temporary evacuation centers are currently full, hence the need to gather at the unaffected house.

“Some of us sleep in the car, while others had to sleep together in a limited space.”

Things are not looking good at all for some of the flood victims in Kelantan. Hopefully, the cash aid that the PM has allocated will ease their burden, and most importantly, ensure that no lives are lost.
