It’s always wise to return borrowed money as soon as you can.
In a Facebook post Ricebowl铁饭网-解决您的求职难题, an anonymous man described his annoyance at a senior colleague who refused to return his money. Recently, the senior colleague did not join the group lunch as he had a lot of work to do. The man, however, offered to tapau a pack of mixed rice for him, which cost RM13.
He passed the packed lunch to the senior colleague without immediately asking him to return the money.
“I didn’t ask him for the money because he was occupied with work, and I assumed he would take the initiative to return the money himself.”
2 days later, the senior colleague had not returned his money, and he did not mention anything about it. The man thought the senior colleague had probably forgotten about it, so he approached him and politely asked for RM13.
“I was afraid that you have forgotten about the money, so I just wanted to remind you.”
Unfortunately, his kindness was not met with gratitude and in fact, the senior colleague made it look like he had never owed anyone money.
“It was just RM13. Are you that poor? Can’t you just consider it a treat?”
The man was not happy with the senior colleague’s response and he almost flipped at his reply. Fortunately, another colleague was present and he knew the man was triggered by the senior colleague’s response, so he interfered and tried to stop before the situation escalated.
“Don’t be lame! Why would he treat you even if he has money? You should return the RM13.”
The senior colleague then hesitantly offered to return the money via QR code.
He ended his post by sending a “friendly reminder” to the senior colleague, whom he is expecting to see the anonymous post.
“Even if it was only RM1, I considered it too much for you. You know who you are.”
Regardless of the amount, you should always return the money as soon as possible. It does not only show integrity but also how dependable you are.
