With Raya in less than 2 weeks, some people are still struggling to prepare for the festival, especially those who are tight on budget. After worrying about the ingredients to cook, some still have concerns about Raya outfits, which can be expensive too.
Fortunately, you don’t have to spend big bucks on the Raya outfit this year. In a viral TikTok post by @abdulazimbinabdulilah, the local supermarket, Mydin is selling Baju Melayu for only RM5! Yes, you read that right and the slashed price is not only for kids but also for adults!
The price is even cheaper than the Roti John at the Ramadhan Bazaars.
“Look at this. Only RM5, and there are a lot of colours and designs. With only RM5, you can already have your own Baju Raya.”
Azim stated that he wasn’t paid by anyone to “market” the products and he was merely helping to spread the word, in the hope that it would help those in need.
“Thank you, Mydin. I feel like crying. Thankfully, many people will now have the budget for the Raya outfit.”
In a conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, Azim said that he was at the Meru Raya outlet in Ipoh when he saw the shockingly cheap price for the Baju Melayu
The RM5 price does NOT include the full set of Baju Melayu (pants, Songkok & Sampin) but to Azim, it’s gracious enough and he’s grateful for it.
“I did not expect my story to go viral but I’m grateful it happened. I’m touched to see there are companies out there that still care about the people.”
In terms of the quality, Azim said that given the price, we shouldn’t expect much because most people who can’t afford a fancy outfit are grateful and happy enough to have something nice to put on during the festive season.
As for Azim himself, he told WORLD OF BUZZ that he did not manage to get himself one.
“I didnt manage to get one. There were too many people who had their eyes on the Baju Melayu. They needed it more than me.”
@abdulazimbinabdulilah Alhamdulilah geng2 bapak2 awak dah ada baju raya modal tak kasar anak sekolah,awal ramadhan,raya pulak #ramadhan2024 #raya2024 #mydin #rakyat #ayah #fyp
We’re not sure about the quality of the Baju Melayu but if you put it on and match the outfit with the right colour, you’re gonna look great and honestly, the price doesn’t matter at all. The festive season is not just about taking an OOTD but to strengthen the bond between relatives and friends, aside from celebrating your victory of soldiering through the month of Ramadhan.
