Festival celebrations always bring families closer and since we live in the world of social media, more and more families get to showcase their own antics for the world to see.
Since Ramadhan has ended, we’ve been seeing a lot of Raya related content all over social media now. Recently, a fun dancing video of a Malay family in Mambau, Negeri Sembilan went viral on TikTok.
In the
35 second video, 3 men can be seen dancing, each with their own unique local moves before accepting their ‘duit raya’ from their cousins. The TikTok video posted by
@izzatiyanglawa has since garnered
1 million views and
over 103.5k likes!
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Izzati, the person who uploaded the video said that it’s not a family tradition for anyone in her family to perform a dance before accepting ‘duit raya’.
But this year, something surprisingly unique and funny happened for Izzati’s family.
“It was not planned. Of course every year we practice giving away ‘duit raya’ but this time we wanted to try giving the money away in a more interesting manner”, she said.
In the video, three women could be seen sitting down, ready to give their ‘duit raya’. According to Izzati, everyone in the video are all cousins. From the left, dressed in a black baju kurung is Izzah, followed by Zalikha while Izzati was dressed in maroon.
“The ‘pocong’ wants to join Raya too”
First up to perform for their ‘duit raya’ was Danish with his own campy rendition of Silat (local martial art) moves. The three cousins could not stop laughing as they witnessed his dance and then “awarded” him several packets of money.
Next up was a more groovy dance style from Dinie. Izzati titled his dance, “Mr Maon returns from cabaret club”.
But the performance that entertained the family with the most laughs was from Apak Faizal, the last man to get his ‘duit raya’ in the video. Faizal hopped into the living room like the locally popular ghost, ‘pocong’ and his family roared with uncontrollable laughter.
The family clearly did not see that coming. Izzati captioned the whole TikTok video with “For the sake of ‘duit raya’, if you have to become a ‘pocong’ then ‘pocong’ it is lah“.
“We are not from a wealthy family but for us, our family is a priceless treasure.”
Izzati said that the family really enjoyed the whole moment and that they are all naturally a comedic bunch.
