Nowadays, with the market saturated with all kinds of goods and services, marketing for businesses have to be attention-grabbing. If not, you’ll tend to be overshadowed by other more eye-catching products.
Recently, a Malaysian entrepreneur and baking influencer came under fire online for her slightly unconventional way of promoting a hotel in Kuala Lumpur (KL).
In a series of tweets that have gone viral, she praised a hotel on Jalan Ipoh for their aesthetically pleasing decoration, their pillow offering and the luxurious feel that the hotel has.
“They provide four kinds of pillows that you can choose from! It’s really a five star experience! Out of all the hotels I’ve been to, Le Meridien Putrajaya is the only one that also offers customers different pillow choices,” she wrote in her tweet.
Where netizens thought she messed up
However, what some netizens didn’t like was how she labelled the hotel as “an aesthetic love hotel”. She also pointed out that the hotel’s soundproofing could be better.
In the replies to her tweets, netizens condemned the entrepreneur for her distasteful choice of words in promoting the hotel, saying that it is inappropriate considering that she’s a mom.
“I feel disgusted just reading it.”
They also feel like calling the hotel a “love hotel” will give it a bad image.
An apology
After the tweets blew up, the entrepreneur apologised to those who were offended by her choice of words.
“To those offended by my words, I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart,” she said.
She added that she only meant to share this incredible hotel find with her followers who’ve known her for years and obviously know how she talks and jokes.
“It just suddenly blew up because the hotel is nice and worth the price,” she concluded.
