Running an agency that serves clients means you have to follow their instructions and meet their demands. But those who have worked in the industry before will know that some clients’ requests can be a tad bit ridiculous if not absolutely nonsensical.
A social media agency that provides design services for logos, business cards, flyers, menus, posters, catalogs, banners, billboards, websites, and more, posted an encounter they had with a client recently.
In a Facebook post, KF Design posted a screenshot of an email from their client. In the email, the client asked the agency to convert all AI (Adobe Illustrator) files into PPT (PowerPoint) to make the project “easy” for them to edit by themselves.
I mean, what’s the point of hiring an agency in the first place when you want to edit the work by yourselves?
Those who have used Adobe Illustrator or Microsoft PowerPoint before would know that projects from both the software programmes are saved in completely different formats. Plus, the two programmes both serve a different purpose.
So, when KF Design received a request to convert all AI files to PPT format, they were dumbfounded. And even if there was a way to convert the files, it would be a very tedious process and the structure of the design would probably not be the same anymore.
Netizens, of course, were quick to respond to the post, with many saying KF Design should just save the AI files in JPEG format and paste it into PowerPoint.
- “Convert into jpeg and put into PPT. Technically you are already following orders because no one said anything about “retaining layers”. “Want to edit”? Go add yourself lah.”
- “Give it to me, just change it to jpg, insert it into ppt and give it to him. ?”
Other netizens advised KF Design to charge the client more money or ask them to do it by themselves.
- “One slide ppt RM1.”
- “Double charge!”
- “Tell their employees to learn how to convert themselves, Google has a lot of tutorials.”
I guess the client was right to hire an agency to design their projects for them because clearly they don’t know anything about software programmes and file formats.
We still don’t know how KF Design responded to the client, but I’m sure converting AI files to PPT was not part of it.
