With about 2 weeks left of Ramadhan to go, those who fast do their best to complete the journey. In the meantime, some Malaysians decided to give fasting a try as they not only want to see how long they can last but also experience what it feels like to withstand hunger and thirst.
Malaysian actor, Ooi Liang Chia tried fasting recently and while he managed to brace through the day, it was his first and last attempt.
“I’m impressed with those who can fast, but…”
Ooi “documented” his first attempt at fasting in his TikTok post, and he woke up at 5:08am for Sahur. That’s typically the time Muslims wake up to fill their stomach before bracing through a long day until they break their fast at dusk.
However, Ooi did not eat much as he admitted that he was not good at cooking.
“I ate the Popiah that I bought last night, and drank some water.”
Ooi then went about his day with shooting and classes but canceled his badminton session with friends as he wanted to visit the Bazaar Ramadhan, which was crowded.
The clock showed 6:52 pm, and it was just about half an hour left to go. But this was when Ooi ALMOST gave up as he started to tremble because he was starving. Ooi tried to rest in the car for a bit before heading home.
“That half an hour felt like a year, but I braced through it,” Ooi said.
Eventually, he successfully braced through his first day of fasting like a champ, and he broke his fast at 7:26 pm.
In his caption, Ooi stated that he will never forget his experience of fasting for the first time, which prompted him NOT to try anymore. However, he couldn’t deny how impressed he was with those who fast every year.
“Salute to all my Muslim gang!”
Ooi changed his mind
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Ooi admitted that the trembling moment was initially his cue not to try anymore in the future. However, he has since changed his mind.
“This time, I’ll change my Sahur meal and see how my body responds.”
When asked what motivated him to try fasting, Ooi told WORLD OF BUZZ that he has quite a number of Muslim friends who somehow became his inspiration to try fasting.
“Seeing them fasting trigger me to try out.”
Ooi also said that he decided to try after stumbling upon articles about the health benefits of fasting. You can watch his TikTok clip below.
@ooiliangchia Tak akan saya lupakan time saya menggigil dalam kereta tu. Ataupon mmg masa sahur kena makan heavy baru boleh tahan lama? Apa2 pon SALUTE to all my Muslim geng ??
Fasting is undeniably tough but we have to say, Ooi did well for a first-timer! Fellow Muslim friends, hang in there! Only about 16 days of fasting to go before we celebrate Raya! How has your fasting been so far?
