Despite the reduction in the price ceiling of disposable face masks from RM1.50 to RM1.20, certain families still do not have the ability to afford such an amount.

On 10 August, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (Senior Minister of Security Cluster) revealed that the government is currently examining the use of face shields over face masks for school children, as reported by BERNAMA.

“With the face shield, you only need to buy it once and it can be washed or cleaned and be used for up to four or five months.

Recently, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has also been requested to conduct a study on the use of fabric face masks. This type of masks are sewn personally, washable and thus people won’t have to change it on a frequent basis. Additionally, MOH was also urged to come up with the decision of allowing those with purdah to not wear a face mask.

To those of you who don’t know, purdah is a piece of cloth that Muslims use to cover their faces with the exception of their eyes.

The wearing of face masks has been made mandatory since 1 August in order to break the Covid-19 chain. Despite this, those who are in school are given an exception to this rule. But it is still highly encouraged for them to wear face masks.

As for the re-implementation of an interstate travel ban due to the Covid-19 outbreak from the Sivagangga PUI cluster, Ismail Sabri said that a decision has not been made yet.
