In a time where everything, especially the prices of items go up and up, is it possible to spend only RM20 for a day in KL?
A YouTuber from Hong Kong, Mario Hau recently proved that it is possible for anyone to do so. In the beginning of his video, he started the challenge by asking the locals for cheap options. Mario met a Russian kid who is studying here, and he was kind enough to offer a helping hand by contributing RM1 to his challenge.
“I’m gonna help you. Good luck!”
So Mario had RM21 now, and let’s see what did he spend on for 3 meals of the day.
He began with breakfast at a random Mamak stall where he had Roti Canai with curry, which cost him only RM1.30.
He’s immediately a fan of both the price and the taste. In the midst of his challenge, Mario discovered Menu Rahmah in McDonald’s but he did not purchase it.
After finding suggestions online, Mario found himself a place for lunch – a vegetarian restaurant located inside a temple. He had rice with 3 vegetarian dishes for only RM6.50.
Before he left the temple, Mario had the chance to mingle around and chat with the aunties at the temple, who revealed that they were volunteers at the place. He then decided to donate the RM1 to the temple, which he got from the Russian boy at the beginning of his challenge.
Mario then took a free bus ride and got off at a random stop to explore the city, before taking the LRT to Bukit Bintang where he spent another RM2.80.
At a market, he spent RM1 on a piece of Tauhu Pentol before spending another RM3.90 on an electric scooter rental.
Now, with only RM4 left, what can you possibly have in KL that is both tasty and satisfying? Look no further than the Malaysia’s pride – Ramly Burger.
Mario spent the remaining money that he had on a chicken burger with egg. His challenge has been proven successful – you can indeed spend only RM20 in KL for a day!
“Mission accomplished without needing to eat biscuits, cup noodles or bread.”
