It is now raining every day and the drains are a dangerous place as they are full of water gushing at high speed.
On 25 November, a two-year-old boy in Melaka had gone missing and was believed to have fallen into a drain at Taman Goodwood, Bukit Palah.
A Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) representative said that they received a distress call at 3.42pm and they immediately dispatched a team from the Ayer Keroh station.
According to a report by BERNAMA, the mother of the child, Nor Amiza Che Kar, 28, said that the 2-year-old boy was playing with his sibling while she and her husband were selling nasi kerabu nearby.
It is said that at that time, the pair of siblings were playing near the drains that were full of water due to heavy rains in the afternoon.
They only realised that the child was missing at around 3.30pm when his sibling did not know his whereabouts and they found his slippers on the grass nearby.
“The victim’s father suspects his son fell into the 0.6 metre wide and one-metre deep drain,” said the spokesperson.
Authorities and even the public were putting in their all during the search effort that continued on till night when they looked around the surrounding drains.
According to the Facebook pages Melaka Kini, Melaka Hari Ini and many more, the boy’s body was found earlier today at 9.30am in a large drain in Taman Desa Baru near the Melaka Hospital.
This is certainly very saddening and unfortunate. Thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family, may he rest in peace.
