Due to accidents constantly happening in the Udini Underpass on Jalan Masjid Negeri in Penang, which often involve motorcycles, motorcyclists have officially been prohibited from using the route.
Seri Delima assemblyperson, Connie Tan, took to her Facebook page to announce the ban on motorcycles from using the underpass while showcasing how multiple signages have been put in place to emphasise the ban.

She wrote, “Warning road signs have been drawn on the road at the entrance to the Udini Underpass from Jalan Masjid Negeri and the Penang Bridge. Motorcyclists are STRICTLY PROHIBITED from using the Udini Underpass. Do not break the rules. Don’t risk lives.”
In the images showcased, 4 huge, striking signages can be seen prohibiting motorcyclists from using Udini Underpass, while huge ‘no motorcycles’ signs were also painted onto the lane heading towards the underpass.
There is also another signboard highlighting a lane that motorcycles CAN use.

She also thanked the authorities for their quick action in attempting to prevent an accident from happening at the underpass.
“I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to MBPP (Penang Island City Council) for the action taken following the last DUN session, where I raised the issue of frequent accidents at the Udini Underpass, especially involving motorcyclists,”
“Now, there is no longer any excuse for not knowing or not being aware of the ban.”
Use cameras!
Some Malaysians also pointed out that the authorities should install cameras at the Udini Underpass as enforcement to take action against motorcyclists who ignore the ban and use the underpass anyway.
