Now here’s a horrifying story that was spawned from a particularly unsavoury habit that most of us would not admit to having: picking your nose. Don’t lie, everybody does it. But while most people resort to their fingertips to get the dirty deed done, this uncle in China went to some great lengths to pick at an itch in his nose and paid for it with dire consequences.

As reported by Shanghaiist, a man living in Changsha city, Hunan, felt the sudden urge to pick at an itching sensation in his nostril after he had dinner with his family. Which is not the politest thing to do, but we suppose as long as its done when everyone has left the table it’s his right to do so, right?

With everyone gone, he reached for a single chopstick and did the unthinkable: he slid it up into his nostril and began picking at his nose with itEwwwww! People eat with those! But it only gets worse! As he was rising up to stand on his feet, the man stumbled and wound up falling face-first onto the ground. As you can imagine, the majority of length of the 20cm chopstick was sent right into his nasal cavity as a result, puncturing it. Oh my God!

He was rushed to the local hospital, where surgeons performed an immediate surgical procedure on the man in fear that any small movement might cause the chopstick to push further into his head. The operation proved successful and the man is thankfully now recovering in intensive care.

Let this be a lesson to fellow gold-digging nose-pickers to be careful, and think twice about attempting anything like this themselves! We also wish the man a swift recovery.
