Most of us have a fear of accidentally causing a fire or an explosion when at the petrol station.
Just recently, a man in Kangar, Perlis was caught in a gas tank explosion when he was filling up his car.
According to BOMBA, this incident occurred when a man in his 40s refuelled his car at about 4 pm on May 17. Suddenly, an explosion happened, and glass pieces from the blast injured the man’s hand.
Those at the scene quickly rushed to help and used the fire extinguishers to quell the fire. The BOMBA reached the scene shortly, and the fire was put out in 15 minutes.
It is said that the man’s Proton Iswara Aeroback was 50% burnt while the roof of the petrol station was damaged.
Kangar district police chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop told BERNAMA that the tank exploded, causing the car to catch fire. However, the fire originated from the front passenger seat.
“The fire department’s forensics investigators found that the fire originated from the front passenger seat. They suspect that a spark by the mobile phone ignited the petrol vapour in the vicinity.”
Fortunately, the man was alone at that time, and he only sustained light injuries.
The police also stressed that there were no criminal elements in this incident.
“The Fire Department stated that the cause of the fire was accidental and there were no criminal elements involved.”
We hope that the man will recover soon. For the rest of us, please remember not to do anything that can cause a fire in the petrol station.
