As we enter 2018, we observe the ever evolving tech around us. With a click of a button we can get a ride to our destination, have groceries sent to our doorstep, get the latest fashion trends from warehouse to wardrobe and more.

Now, the up and coming tech that experts are trying to integrate into daily life is the cashless payment system. We’ve seen bank apps upgrading significantly, such as being able to pay using our credit/debit cards with just a tap.

However, welcome to the future guys! Because there’s a self service e-concept store, Irispay, on our very won Malaysian shores!

The transaction just requires an app and a tap to get convenience store goodies.

Irispay, an e-payment operator has opened Malaysia’s first self-service convenience store in Subang Jaya following the likes of innovations from Amazon and Alibaba. The self-service convenience store has attracted a lot of attention and coverage from the people, press and potential investors.

While Irispay’s E-concept Store isn’t the first or only store of its kind in Malaysia (there’s already Mama 11 Mart in Penang and Melaka), they are the first of such stores to open within the Klang Valley.

Irispay E-Concept Store is entirely cashless. Customers are required to download the Irispay app, fill in personal details and scan the QR code on the products before making payment. By eliminating the need for physical staff, the shop is able to operate 24/7 without worrying about the cost of labour.

At the moment, items such as snacks, beverages, and condoms are being sold. Goods sold are also labelled with mini flags of China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, and others to reflect the country of origin.

Irispay says that they hope to expand to as much as 250 stores nationwide within 2018, will this be the end of traditional convenient stores or will the human touch still overrule technological advances?

We can’t say. But for now, we hope that more items will be sold in time if this E-concept store goes well. If you’re around the Subang Jaya area, be sure to pay this unique store a visit!

Address: 43, Jalan SS15/4, SS15, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor.

Opening Hours: 10.00am to 10.00pm daily. The shop will operate 24/7 after the official launch later this month.
