Covid-19 has been hitting the globe hard for the first half of 2020, and people will probably not be travelling for the rest of the year. Despite tourism taking a break worldwide, let alone Malaysia, a local tourism video has created wonderful results at The Telly Awards 2020.

Titled “Discover Breathtaking Malaysia“, it was awarded Silver at the Awards for showcasing the best work created across video, for all screens in the Travel/Tourism category. This video was in competition with 12,000 other entries, and has gracefully succeeded as one of the winners at The Telly Awards based in New York, in the United States.

According to Tourism Malaysia, this near 5-minute promotional video was produced back in October 2019 as part of the agency’s initiatives to promote Malaysia. Besides, the campaign was meant to target millennials by using hashtags and technology alongside Malaysia’s touristic attractions and activities.

“Discover Breathtaking Malaysia” was picked among other entries that were reviewed by the Telly Awards Judging Council for the 41st Annual Telly Awards this year.

The Silver Winner that represented Malaysia displayed the full spectrum of our nation, ranging from natures and concrete jungles to the colourful palette of Malaysian delicacies. All these elements were incorporated with technology like cameras and mobile phones to capture the best moments of travelling in Malaysia.

Although it is unknown as to when we will get to travel again, Director-General of Tourism Malaysia Datuk Musa Yusof hoped that Malaysians would be excited to explore our country once it is safe to travel.

“We are proud to showcase the beauty of Malaysia, and what better way to do that in this climate than by utilizing our digital assets and giving our global audience a sneak peek through virtual experience. I hope that this also incites excitement in our fellow Malaysians to explore our lands once it is safe to travel again.”

“This international recognition only serves to prove that Malaysia has what it takes to boost its tourism sector again, hopefully soon. We at Tourism Malaysia will continuously strive to restore confidence in travellers to discover beautiful Malaysia safely under the new normal.”

Noting how Visit Malaysia Year 2020 is deemed impossible, Tourism Malaysia believes that the message of the video still managed to remind people – Malaysian or not – about the beauty of our country.
