The beauty and environment of the Pulau Sayak beach at Kota Kuala Muda, Penang, has taken quite a hit. What was once a place for people to relax and breathe in the fresh air with their loved ones have now been polluted by the actions of certain individuals.
Rubbish not only can be seen spewed everywhere, but there are allegedly also terrible smells that ruin the atmosphere of the beach.
According to Kosmo, most of the of the rubbish consists of polystyrene food packages, leftover food and oddly enough, used diapers that have been left behind by visitors.
A 33-year-old resident of the area, Suhaimi Saidin shared that the rubbish at the beach not only ruins the view of the environment but is also just plainly an eyesore.
“I get furious when I see this waste, including disposable diapers that are just left behind, these people have no awareness at all. What’s wrong with bringing back all the trash and throwing it in the right place? It’s a pity that this beautiful area is getting dirty,” he said.
Another Malaysian, 27-year-old Muhamad Danial Mohd. Azhar mentioned that the rubbish also leaves a bad smell.
“I came here to have a picnic with my wife and kids, though we’re disappointed when we saw the area here has been polluted with rubbish and terrible smells. This location is extremely pretty and not too crowded, though this place does not have facilities like at Merdeka beach,” he explained.
55-year-old Munirah Ahmad, who is a visitor from Alor Setar said that, should the beach be left in this condition, the littering activities will only get worse.
“I condemn these irresponsible actions and hope that all parties will take care of the cleanliness of Pulau Sayak beach together, for the importance of togetherness. If everyone who comes here leaves behind rubbish, maybe after this there will no longer be locations where we can have picnics with our families,” she added.
