Despite the pandemic, we live in the modern era of hoverboards, smartwatches and virtual assistants.

Yet, there are still people out there who have resorted to basic human instincts such as hunting and fishing just to survive in this troubling economic period.

Kepong Member of Parliament, Lim Lip Eng, took to his Twitter account to showcase three men he had encountered, who were fishing for survival in a shallow river.

He wrote, “I came across these three men who were fishing at a river. They have to resort to this because they don’t have money to buy food and have been jobless since the last MCO.”

“The fish that they catch are for their own consumption only,” he added.

We live in the most technologically advanced era. Yet, there are still those among us who are left with no choice but to fish for their survival.

We can only hope that while our community and industry leaders focus on turning our country into a digital society, they can also equally focus on empowering struggling community members by providing work opportunities and training to those who need it.

Together, we can make our community a better place for everyone.
