Popular social media platform TikTok recently published its latest “Government Removal Requests Report“, which provides an insight into the volume of government removal or restrictions requests it received and the nature of TikTok’s response to them.
The latest report reveals the government removal requests received by TikTok in the first half of this year, namely from 1 January until 30 June 2024. Interestingly, the Malaysian Government was featured prominently in the statistics, topping the total requests sent and a couple of other metrics, so read on to learn more.

According to TikTok, during the aforementioned period, the Malaysian Government sent by far the MOST number of requests to remove content on the platform, with a whopping 2,606 requests.
For context, the Malaysian Government is the only entry in the list with a 4-digit number of requests, with the Indonesian Government sending the second most number of requests at 778.

Completing the list of the top 5 governments that sent the most requests to TikTok for content removal are Australia (522 requests), Russia (492 requests) and Pakistan (371 requests).

Besides that, Malaysia also topped the list with the most content TikTok has taken action against due to local law violations, with a whopping 5,296 content.

Another metric in which our country topped the list is for the most accounts that TikTok took action against due to community guideline violations, with 2,080 accounts.

Overall, here are the statistics reported by TikTok regarding the requests sent by the Malaysian Government during the first half of 2024:
