Recently, Malaysian badminton legend Datuk Lee Chong Wei announced his retirement from the sport after 19 years of blood, sweat, and tears after his battle with cancer.
He received global praise from former players and fans alike as they thanked him for his contribution to badminton.
Lining up to send a message to our beloved champion was none other than Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The 1-minute 58-second video that was shared on both Facebook and Twitter was simply titled “For Lee Chong Wei”, and featured both Tun Mahathir and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali sending their love for the badminton superstar.

Posting his video via @chedetofficial, Tun Mahathir said: “I am touched and sad that our champion (Datuk) Lee Chong Wei has decided to call it a day on his career. I hope that he gets his much-needed rest and recovers from his illness.”
“I want to wish my utmost gratitude to Chong Wei for putting Malaysia on the world sports map. We feel a great loss to have our champion retire.”
After ending his message for Chong Wei, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah had something to say as well.
“Don’t worry Chong Wei, you don’t have the opportunity to win the Olympic gold, never mind Chong Wei. I think for me, health is very, very important.”
In her message, she also mentions that Chong Wei has made the right decision as his wife and son will be there for him.
“You have been teaching them how to play badminton. God willing, you will see the boys playing badminton and winning the Olympic gold for you.”
“Never regret. you have done the best you could for the country, for yourself, for your family, and for all of us.”
After spending 19 years on the international stage, our champion truly deserves all the love we can give.

We hope that Malaysians will continue to show much love to Datuk Lee Chong Wei, and we pray that he can now enjoy his much-needed rest with his family.
