A lorry caught on fire was seen “self-driving” on the Putrajaya-Cyberjaya Highway at kilometre 38 on Monday (January 13).
The lorry driver managed to escape the blaze by jumping off the vehicle after it lost control. According to Sepang District Police Chief Superintendent G K Shan Gopal, the driver tried to stop his vehicle by the roadside but to no avail.
The fire was spreading rapidly so the driver could only save himself.
In the viral video, the lorry “drove” itself on the right lane of the highway before swerving to the exit on the left and eventually stopping at the roadside.
Shan Gopal also said the driver noticed smoke emitted from the vehicle’s engine when he was driving, and the overheated engine was likely the cause of the fire, reported Malaysia Gazette.
The lorry was burnt to a crisp but fortunately, the driver survived with minor injuries.
Shan Gopal added that the lorry driver had informed the vehicle’s owner about the accident before reporting the matter to the police. The owner, however, does not plan to claim the damages from the insurance company as the compensation is not that much.
The accident happened around 6:30 PM on Monday when the driver was headed to Puchong from Dengkil.
