This local comedy club built the comedy scene in Malaysia for over 7 years
Since May 2014, the Crackhouse Comedy Club has held nightly shows featuring the best local and international comics, such as Douglas Lim, Paul Ogata, Gina Yashere, Dana Alexander, Dara O’Briain, Joanne Kam, and more.
The place is both a spot for:
- People to get a laugh from the acts
- As well as nurture new comedy talent by using it as a training ground for material
Btw, many of which later ended up on international tours or streaming platforms such as Netflix!
Heavily affected after Covid-19 hit
As we all know, the pandemic has killed off the travel and event scene. With gatherings no longer allowed, Crackhouse struggles hard to sustain the business.
Hence, co-founder Rizal Van Geyzel spent three months personally designing a brand new pizza menu, with every ingredient used prepared freshly in the recently-refurbished kitchen. Now the club is surviving to keep its doors open by offering a full delivery and pick-up service to customers.
Staying true to its Comedy flagship, every order comes with a QR code containing a 1-min comedy clip provided by past International headliners, showing solidarity with the club as well as providing laughter during lockdown.
The new menu includes crowd favourites such as,
- “Ayam what I am” chicken and pesto pizza
- “Sambal, yet effective” locally-inspired beef pizza
- “Sarung party chicks” western/local style chicken wings, and
- “The Underground cookie”, meant as a cheeky British-inspired pastiche to the Subway cookie, but made more delicious with the addition of burned butter.
