GE15 may very well one of the most intense General Elections in the country’s history, with 944 individuals including 817 male and 127 female candidates.
This number is the highest as compared to the 687 candidates in GE14 and the 579 candidates in GE13.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) has 220 candidates representing them, followed by Barisan Nasional (BN) with 178 candidates, Perikatan Nasional (PN) with 171 candidates and Gerakan Tanah Air with 116 candidates.
112 seats are needed to form the Government and 148 seats are required for a 2/3 majority.
Malaysia has 222 parliamentary seats and a simple majority to win the election is 112 seats.
At the federal level, voters elect the 222-member Dewan Rakyat and these members are elected from single-member constituencies drawn based on population. The party that has the majority of the House of Representatives will form the federal government.
This GE15, citizens wait anxiously for the results to find out who will run the country considering the fiasco of what is known as the most crucial election in Malaysian history in 2018 (GE14).
