The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) is targeting 50,000 taxpayers who will appear in the Special Voluntary Disclosure Program (SVPD 2.0) special voluntary declaration program from June 1 until the end of next year.
Based on a report by Buletin TV3, the Chief Executive Officer of LHDN Datuk Mohd Nizom Sairi shared that they expect business owners who started small, have grown and have become eligible to pay tax to come forward. This is in addition to individuals and companies that have never reported their incomes before.
This is more so for influencers and TikTokers who earn incomes through their services online.
“Because they are active openly in public, we observe, this is a reminder not a warning, that the revenue board (LHDN) sees what is happening, come forward, this is the best opportunity in SVPD 2.0,” he explained.
The department believes that the income of influencers and TikTokers can clearly be assessed through the number of followers in addition to viewing content that has been uploaded online. LHDN has also implemented the initiative to hold engagement sessions with this group to understand and to get feedback.
“We actually have an initiative with them and get feedback on the form of income they receive, we have given advice, to come forward and report their income,” he added.
The voluntary declaration program was announced at the presentation of Budget 2023 by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI), allowing amnesty of 100% penalty on unpaid direct and indirect taxes helping to increase government revenue in addition to benefitting taxpayers who wish to take advantage of the initiative.
