It’s durian season again and durian lovers everywhere are rejoicing as they can now indulge in the king of fruits whenever they like. Although durian sellers in Singapore have informed that the price has hit an all-time high in 33 years, this fact has not deterred people from eating the strong-smelling fruit. Durian feast anyone?
However, you might want to check your durians properly before eating them as a netizen recently took to Facebook to share a disgusting incident that happened when she bought some durians to satisfy her cravings.
“I was craving for durians today, so my family headed over to Chong Pang market fruits stall (the one with the tent). When I was there, the seller kept trying to persuade us to get the S$18/kg (RM56) durians but we ended up buying two for S$30 (RM94).”
She noted that the seller had a bad attitude, probably because they didn’t buy the more expensive durians but they didn’t think much of it and went home to enjoy their durians.
She describes what happened next, “I was the first to taste the durians when we got home since I was craving for it. To my horror, there were worms in the durian! FYI, I didn’t notice till the second bite as I felt there were crunchy bits inside the flesh.” Yuck!
So, the horrified family decided to go back to the fruit stall to complain and to their amazement, the seller gave them a very unapologetic answer. He said, “Only one has worms mah, choose another two lor.” Wah, what an answer!
She continued, “Who wants to have the second one after the worms have digested in my stomach? So my dad asked for a refund since we don’t want the durians anymore.”
“Another guy passed us the money and said “Take it, take it”. Hello, we don’t owe you anything. All we want is the refund because seeing the worms on the durian already grossed me out,” she added.
Cassandra ends her post by warning everyone to be careful and to check their food when buying from this stall or even other places.
Remember to always scrutinise your food before eating, people!
