Our beloved capital, Kuala Lumpur, has been named the world’s top city to live in for expats followed by Malaga, Dubai, Sydney, and Singapore. The survey, organized by InterNations, interviewed more than 12,000 expats. The survey which was done in January 2021 asked members of Internations to rate their satisfaction across four categories: Quality of life, ease of settling in, personal finance and working abroad.

Overall, Kuala Lumpur topped the list with most of the members praising the culture, the cost of living, as well as the availability of housing. 78 per cent of respondents praised the local culture in Kuala Lumpur and 77 per cent praised how friendly the local population was towards foreign residents. As quoted by DailyMail, an American expat said,

”I love the culturally diverse environment of Kuala Lumpur. The overall friendliness of Malaysians makes it the best place to retire.”

On top of that, 80 per cent of expats living in Kuala Lumpur declared that they were satisfied with their financial situation in comparison with 64 per cent globally. If you’re living in Kuala Lumpur, how often do you interact with expats whether at work or when you socialize?  As a local, what is your opinions towards more and more expats moving into Malaysia and calling Malaysia their home? We would love to know your opinion.
