Whenever there is a place that Malaysians love to travel to, you can definitely find the street vendors who can speak Malay. This is standard practice for them to attract Malaysian customers as we are easily impressed by how foreigners can pick up our language.
Recently, a video of a street vendor selling Dragon’s Beard candy recorded by a Malaysian tourist there has gone viral for this reason.

In the video, the vendor started to explain the process of making the candy in Malay while demonstrating the whole process. He said,
“Sedikit demi sedikit, tarik-tarik. Ini 500 tahun yang lalu, Hanya raja yang boleh makan.”
Yes, his ability to speak Malay is impressive but what’s more impressive is that he can produce the delicate dessert while still entertaining the customers with his smart quips. Staying updated with Malaysia’s current trends, he jokingly ends his speech by saying,
“Najib, malu apa bossku? 16 ribu, rambut Rosmah!”
So if you are planning to visit Myeondong Shopping Street in Seoul soon, make sure you drop by the Dragon’s Beard candy stall that has great dessert and even greater marketing.
