Ever since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO), many restaurants and eateries have been shut down, leaving citizens no choice but to resort to delivery services or queue up for food during the limited opening hours of selected food outlets. Even 24-hour restaurants in KL had their hours restricted to 16 hours. But according to KL Mayor, that is set to change.

All 24-hour restaurants in KL are now allowed to operate according to their usual times, as said by Mayor Datuk Nor Hisham A. Dahlan: “After considering the public’s best interests, the restricted business operating hours order from 6am to 10pm is lifted,” as reported by Malay Mail.

Following a posting made on DBKL’s Facebook page on 19th March, the mayor addressed the previous order that said 24-hour restaurants could only open from 6am to 10pm from 19th March to 31st March, clarifying that this restriction will no longer apply.

“However, the business premises (restaurants) still need to obey to only services via drive-thru, delivery and takeaway,” specified the mayor, adding that this order may be subject to change and those who don’t comply by the rules will have stern action taken against them.

Meanwhile, another posting by DBKL made yesterday (22nd March), said that citizens had to follow three ground rules relating to supermarkets, grocery stores, restaurants, public and private markets until the end of the MCO.

Regardless of whether you’re a worker, customer or supplier, you have to wear face masks, practice social distancing and stay one metre apart at all times. “Owners/businesses are responsible for controlling the number of visitors in supermarkets, grocery stores, restaurants and public and private markets at a time to ensure social distance.”

Hopefully, this will ease the crowds of Malaysians stocking up on food during this period. If all else fails, just stay at home and cook, guys!
