On 2 January 2022, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin took to his Twitter account to explain the need for booster vaccine shots.
In response to a tweet that shows disbelief in the vaccines regarding the need for booster shots, the health minister said, “When the COVID-19 vaccine was developed there were no Delta or Omicron variants. SARS-CoV2 is a ‘novel’ coronavirus which is a new virus that will inevitably go through mutations.”

He added that as we become more aware of the effects of mutations, our responses need to change as well. “In some countries, flu jabs are taken every year,” he said.
For the time being, KJ said that a booster dose is needed. “More than that, we study from time to time as new scientific data emerge. Importantly our response follows the new data. This is what is meant by an evidence-based response,” he explained.
Hence, it is understood that people may be required to take more booster shots in the future as the mutation of the virus emerges.
