The Kelantan State Government has recently issued a directive to all business premises in the state to close today (10 July 2022) in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha. These include grocers, fast food restaurants, shopping complexes, supermarkets and others, regardless whether the business is operated by Muslims or non-Muslims.
As reported by New Straits Times, the order was issued on 6 July 2022 by the State Government and was confirmed by the Kota Bharu Municipal Council Islamic City (MPKB-BRI) secretary Mohd Shaifudeen Md Salleh. Moreover, those that failed to abide by the notice would face stern action, with the possibility of their licences being revoked.
The notice by the Kelantan State Government also asserted that the business premises only have to be closed for one day, which is today, the first day of Aidiladha. Speaking of the directive, Mohd Shaifudeen urged for businesses in the state to co-operate and respect the order.
Meanwhile, Malaysiakini reported that its source in the Kelantan local government exco’s office also confirmed the directive and iterated that the order is nothing new as it has been issued for many years now. However, for this particular year, the State Government is planning to ‘reinforce’ the shutdown order after being lenient on its implementation in recent years whereby previously, premises can still ask for exemptions.
