Kedah Police Officer Remanded After Hit & Run That Resulted in Death of Teen

On December 15, different social media platforms were in an uproar after a video of a teenager on the road had gone viral. It is said that the teen was involved in an accident where he was hit and run.

According to ASTRO AWANI, the teen, Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie, 17, passed away after the incident in front of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Jati, Meru, in the afternoon.

The SPM candidate was riding a motorcycle and was on his way home when he was rammed by a police officer driving a Perodua Ativa. The teen was declared dead on the spot while the driver of the car was unhurt.

Ipoh District Polie Chief Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan said that the police officer from the Kedah contingent will be remanded today. He added that this case will be investigated from many angles, not excluding criminal for causing the death of an individual under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“PDRM will not harbour anyone including their own officers if there is solid proof.”

According to the post-mortem, the teen’s cause of death is an injury to the chest and abdomen from the road accident.

Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan asked those who knew or had witnessed the accident to get in contact with the investigating officer, Inspector Jong Pit Chiao, at 016-8849163.

He also urges everyone not to speculate or cause public unrest, which could disrupt the investigations.
