The Ministry of Singapore has just announced that there are 942 new Covid-19 cases for today (18 April) and the majority of these cases are work permit holders who are staying in foreign worker dormitories.
14 of the news cases are Singaporeans and permanent residents and the ministry has revealed that the number of local cases is declining. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong stated, as reported by CNA,
“The migrant workers who are ill are getting the medical treatment they need. Fortunately, the vast majority of the cases are mild, because the workers are young. Our healthcare teams continue to monitor their conditions.”
As of now, thirteen dormitories have been declared as isolation areas and the workers are not allowed to leave their rooms for about 14 days. The Prime Minister also mentioned that there are signs that the circuit breaker is working in bringing down positive cases among locals.
Hopefully, the condition becomes better in Singapore soon. We are all in this together and we shall support each other to get through it. No one is left behind!
