Over the weekend, Malaysians were outraged when a video of a car being driven while two children were sitting on top of the boot surfaced on social media.
The incident, which reportedly happened in Pasir Gudang, Johor, went viral on social media and caused widespread concern for the children’s wellbeing.
Now, according to Free Malaysia Today, the 49-year-old suspect who reportedly drove the vehicle was arrested by Johor police on Sunday evening at 7.45pm (21st July) after receiving reports about the video.
Seri Alam district police chief Supt Ismail Dollah told the daily that the male suspect was arrested at his home in Taman Nusa Damai and was subsequently remanded for two days. He is reportedly being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code for endangerment of life or personal safety.
The police have also taken statements from three boys believed to be involved in the incident, who are aged between 10 and 12 years old. One of the children is reportedly the suspect’s son. The suspect’s car, a Toyota Vios, has also been seized.
The video in question showed two children riding on the back of a car. The car also ran a red light.
