Irresponsible Malaysians have created an environment where it is considered normal to litter.

So much so, that our local parks and streets are filled with rubbish, even when dustbins can clearly be seen everywhere.

Japanese national, Nana@Cyberjaya (@NanaCyber2), who lives in Cyberjaya, took to his Twitter profile to showcase the amount of rubbish he and a group of volunteers from Generasi Peduli Sampah Malaysia had collected after cleaning up the Cyber Mini Park for about an hour.

He wrote, “Thank you for joining our clean-up. We managed to collect 32kg of general waste within an hour. Let’s make Cyberjaya cleaner and greener.”

He went on to showcase a further breakdown of the waste collected.

In total, they collected 59 plastic bottles, 10 aluminium cans, 168 cigarette buds, 14 straws, 21 plastic cups, 17 glass bottles, and 97 zip ties.

Yet, all of this could have been easily avoided if we were to simply be accountable and responsible for our rubbish by throwing them into the designated trash cans.

It’s saddening to know that Malaysians are so incapable of properly managing their own waste. After all, it’s not that hard to hold on to your own trash until you find a bin to dispose of it.

We genuinely hope that the authorities look into implementing enforcement against littering in public spaces.
