Our national flag, the Jalur Gemilang recently grabbed the attention of locals and international tourists in Phnom Penh, Cambodia thanks to a unique ‘Bahtera Merdeka’ river cruise organised by the Malaysian Embassy in the country.
Part of this year’s National Day celebration for Malaysians residing in Cambodia, the river cruise features a gigantic 18-metre-long Jalur Gemilang and the playing of patriotic songs by a group of musicians as the boat sails through the Mekong River.
In a Facebook post, the Embassy shared a video of the river cruise attended by many Malaysians living in the country and other guests from Cambodia. The Embassy also thanked attendees for their support despite the heavy rain.

According to BERNAMA, the river cruise also features Malaysian food as well as rallying cries of ‘Merdeka’ and the waving of the Jalur Gemilang by participants.
The Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia, Datuk Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim said that he thought of the idea for the cruise while listening to the iconic Merdeka song ‘Bahtera Merdeka’.
For the river cruise, a 150-passenger capacity two-tier boat was rented from Phnom Penh’s Bopha Port.
