Now, if you’re in any group or part of any organisation, you would definitely be added to all the WhatsApp groups. Most of the time, there will be subgroups that are formed with just a few people from a certain organisation or event.
Recently, a local businesswoman, Kieda, shared on her TikTok @kiedacrepepenang about how she is firing 12 of her employees. This came after she discovered that they had been dissing her via a WhatsApp group that was created for that sole purpose.
Now, this issue has been the hot topic of the weekend and many people shared their take on it, including Public Health Malaysia.
In an X thread, they stressed that it’s normal for employees to have a group without their team lead or boss and the group serves as a space for them to vent, share their feelings without censoring anything and to speak casually.
“It’s important for their mental health to have a safe space to communicate and vent among each other. Allow the group with the bosses to be for official purposes only.”
They continued by saying: “So, the team leads/bosses do not have to be angry or offended when they find out that their workers have a separate communication without them. It is normal.”
“Continue being a professional, humble and respective person.”
Many netizens were supportive of PHM’s sentiments, however, some brought up that there are limits to it.
“If the boss is so affected seeing private Whatsapp groups then they don’t deserve to be a boss.”
“It is normal but don’t normalise talking bad. We make groups without bosses to gossip and not to diss the boss. PHM doesn’t understand how it feels mentally when your own gang makes a group and talks bad about you. When you have experienced it then only you’ll know.”
