On September 1, the vehicle of Dungun MP Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli caught fire at Kilometre 330 of the East Coast Highway 2 (LPT 2) while heading to Kuala Terengganu.
Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control using a hose from the fire engine’s water tank.

The vehicle is an older model
The fire involved a Toyota Vellfire MPV, which was almost 95% destroyed, but fortunately, no one was injured.
In a recent update, Wan Hassan clarified that the vehicle that caught fire on the East Coast Highway 2 (LPT2) was an older model, over 15 years old.
He explained that the 2010 Toyota Vellfire ANH20 (2.4L) had originally been donated to the Dungun PAS division in 2022 for organisational use, but a divisional meeting later decided to sell it due to high maintenance costs.

“I hope this isn’t misinterpreted”
Wan Hassan said the current market value for the said model is around RM45,000 to RM65,000, depending on its condition.
“The agreed sale price was RM60,000, to be paid in six instalments. I bought it for daily use, like attending lectures, community meetings, and parliamentary responsibilities,” the statement read.

The MPV even broke down earlier in April

He added that he wanted to clarify the situation to prevent misunderstandings after the viral car fire incident.
“I hope this isn’t misinterpreted because my main purpose in buying the car was purely for official and community use. We also need to be careful when sharing information so we don’t spread falsehoods that could damage someone’s image or reputation,” he said.
