People near the scene of yesterday’s fatal shooting in Meru, Klang, were caught off guard. At first, they thought the loud bangs were just firecrackers or maybe the usual crow-control operation by authorities.
A 55-year-old shopowner, who asked not to be named, said she was chatting with friends nearby when the noise started. “We heard several loud pops, but didn’t think much of it,” she said. “It wasn’t until a crowd started forming around a vehicle that we realised something serious had happened.”

She told the New Straits Times that she had walked over and saw a four-wheel-drive surrounded by people. “Someone mentioned a shooting, but I didn’t believe it until I saw the scene myself.”
Her husband, who was with her at the time, said the sounds reminded him of firecrackers going off in quick bursts—five or six in a row. “It didn’t sound like gunshots to us,” he added.
The couple said the area had been quiet before the incident, with no signs of any argument or disturbance.
“It was just a normal afternoon,” the woman said. “No shouting, no fighting, nothing.”

Police reviewing CCTV footage
Meanwhile, it has reported that investigators are combing through CCTV footage from around the scene hoping to catch a break in the case.
Klang Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner S Vijaya Rao confirmed that while several recordings have already been reviewed, none have clearly identified the suspect yet.
“We’re still going through more footage from nearby cameras,” he said when contacted earlier today.
The police have also spoken to several witnesses and plan to interview more people who might have seen or heard something useful.
As for possible gang involvement, Vijaya said that angle is still being looked into.
