As everyone knows, when a new Prime Minister takes on the role, they’d come up with a new slogan and branding that fits their vision and responsibilities for their term. Notable past brandings include ‘1Malaysia’, ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ and more.
But, did you know that these Prime Ministers often times spend quite the amount to market and promote these rebrandings?
As shared by Papar MP and Minister for Sabah and Sarawak Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Department of Malaysia, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s Keluarga Malaysia rebranding costed a whopping RM62 million.
“Based on the financial records of the Prime Minister’s Department, the organisation programs related to the rebranding of the Government, which are the Kerajaan Prihatin (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin), Keluarga Malaysia (Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob) and Malaysia Madani (Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim), involving provisions that has been spent until January 30, 2023, is as much as RM62,764,107.25,” he shared.
What’s most surprising is that a huge majority of that amount was spent solely on the rebranding to Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri’s Keluarga Malaysia.
Here’s the breakdown of the total:
- Kerajaan Prihatin : RM181,752.20
- Keluarga Malaysia : RM62,093,139.05
- Malaysia Madani : RM489,216.00
This comes as a written parliamentary answer to Sri Gading MP Tuan Haji Aminolhuda Bin Hassan’s request to fins out the amount of allocations that have been spent on rebranding the Government by the 8th, 9th and current Prime Minister.
“Total expenses are based on tour roadshow programs that have been implemented during the 8th Prime Minister’s administration until the current Prime Minister’s. Only 1 Kerajaan Prihatin program was implemented during the 8th Prime Minister’s administration considering the country (at that time) was under a Movement Control Order (MCO),” Datuk Armizan added.
What do you think of the amount the former and current Prime Ministers have spent for rebranding alone? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
