Perak has always been known to have beautiful sceneries thanks to their gorgeous mountains and water bodies.
Though, over the years, Malaysians have seen the destruction of these mountains for the sake of earthly resources. And now, it appears that a lake in Ipoh has also been destroyed.
The Pemerhati Lembah Kinta 近打谷监测站 Kinta Valley Watch Facebook page recently showcased a before and after comparison of Tasik Cermin in Gopeng, Perak which is now only left with rocks and rubble.
The comparison showcases how the gorgeous tourist spot was in 2020 versus how it looks now, with what appears to be a rockslide from a nearby quarry operation filling up the lake.
Well, it turns out that this is true and also not true!
It’s true because there is, in fact, a lake that’s been affected by a quarry, but it’s not true because the lake is NOT the famous Tasik Cermin.
The lake in question is known as Sky Well or Tasik Hantu Gopeng, which is located about 20km from Tasik Cermin.
According to Tasik Cermin’s Facebook page, Tasik Cermin is a ‘geopark‘, which refers to geological heritage sites that can be used by parties with the purpose of sustainable preservation, education and development. It is essential for a geopark to retain ecological, archaeological, historical and cultural attributes.
While we’re happy that Tasik Cermin is NOT the lake in question, it is still saddening that such quarries are destroying the gorgeous sceneries of Perak.
