A sharing by an Indonesian man travelling in Malaysia of his ‘culture shocks’ while being here on TikTok has gone viral in our country recently, garnering over 1.1 million views and 68,800 likes as of the time of writing.

In the video, the man, TikTok user @coach.tria, details 3 of the ‘culture shocks’ he experienced while in Malaysia while walking through the park near KLCC in Kuala Lumpur.

Starting the video by jokingly saying that he ‘regrets’ coming to Malaysia, @coach.tria said that our country is ‘strange’ compared to Indonesia as there are so many free public playgrounds.

He then insinuated that as an Indonesian, it’s hard for him to imagine how there could be free public playgrounds.

In fact, there are so many public playgrounds that he jokingly said that his child doesn’t want to go back home.

He’s also shocked that no one runs the red light in Malaysia

Next, @coach.tria also shared his ‘culture shock’ of seeing no one running the red light on the road in Malaysia.

Again, he said that as an Indonesian, it’s hard for him to imagine that no road user would run the red light at an intersection when the light is green on a road that is empty.

@coach.tria asserted that such a situation is ‘strange’ in Indonesia, insinuating that people usually just run the red lights at intersections in his country.

The man was ‘shocked’ at how courteous people are here compared to in Indonesia

Finally, the last ‘culture shock’ he experienced in Malaysia is how courteous people are in our country.

He gave an example of how when he recently queued up to use the toilet with 2 other strangers in Malaysia, they insisted that the Indonesian man use the toilet 1st as @coach.tria was there 1st.

This is despite the toilet that was recently vacant was the toilet nearer to the 2 strangers, but since @coach.tria was there earlier than them, the 2 Malaysians ‘respected’ the queue and let the Indonesian man use the toilet 1st.

Again, @coach.tria said that such a situation is ‘strange’, insinuating that people in Indonesia usually don’t do that for others.
