After his release with police bail, Namewee broke his silence last night (14 November) and shared what it was like for him while he was under police custody.

Namewee, who was embroiled in the murder case of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh, said it was frightening to witness a death for the first time in his life.

“I tried my best to save her”

According to the Malaysian singer who was arrested in the hotel room where Iris was found dead, he expressed that it was not only shocking to witness a death before his eyes, but he also felt helpless during the situation, which will stay with his mind eternally.

“It was shocking. I tried my best to save her, but nothing worked. That image will stick in my mind forever.”

“The longest time I’ve spent in police custody”

After the case was reclassified as murder, Namewee turned himself in to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). Despite not being his first time dealing with the police due to his past controversies, Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, admitted that this was the longest time he had ever spent under police custody.

Especially during the first two days.

“I spent over 8 hours almost every day assisting them with the investigation. The longest time I spent helping them was 15 hours.”

In his statement posted on Facebook, Namewee also said that the authorities, which consist of different teams from different departments, carried out their duties diligently and professionally.

“They used multiple ways to record my statement for the case. Their investigation was detailed and thorough.”

As for Iris’s death, Namewee urged everyone to stop cyberbullying the Taiwanese influencer, especially for her past career, in which she had an OnlyFans account, and used to market herself as Taiwan’s number one OnlyFans creator.

“Don’t look down on the careers of others. Having an OnlyFans account doesn’t mean she was a bad person.”

PDRM, however, said that Namewee’s release was temporary until 26 November. The authorities are currently waiting for Iris’s autopsy and toxicology report.
