Nowadays, it’s very common for us to order just about anything online including birthday cakes for our loved ones as it is very convenient and fast to do so. However, miscommunication regarding the special requests can often lead to interesting outcomes when you do not directly deal with the seller face to face.
On 10 March, a Facebook user named Ya Wen Ong published a post to share her hilarious experience of ordering a birthday cake from a bakery shop for her brother through GrabFood.

In the post, she mentioned that she was rushing to order a birthday cake for her brother on that day so she ordered through GrabFood as she didn’t have many options to choose from.
Ya Wen wrote,
“I stated (please help me write KY Happy Birthday/or put a birthday wish stand), and what I received actually made me speechless.”
“They are pretty obedient.”
As you can see from the photo, the bakery just copied and wrote the exact instructions from Ya Wen on the birthday stand,
“KY, Please write this for me or use a birthday wish stand, and I also need candles.”
They even forgot to add the “Happy Birthday!”
She raised up a question at the end of the post and wondered how other netizens would react if they were her. Ya Wen added that she was not commenting on the outer appearance of the cake she was just amused by the content of the text on the birthday cake.
Ya Wen added in the comment section,
“Perhaps I was rushing so I did not separate my instructions in paragraphs. I did not indicate symbols or write it out step by step (or [maybe] they thought that I wanted it to be done in a creative way so it stands out from the others.”
“However, if the person receiving it were someone else, they probably wouldn’t be as optimistic as me the next time.”
Jokes aside, if you’re planning to order cakes for your family or friends, you can select the particular category “Cakes & Bakeries” in the Grab application as seen in the image below.
Thankfully in this scenario, the birthday message fail ended up becoming a joke for Ya-Wen and her family! Let us know what you guys think about this in the comment section!
